History Of Akwa United Football Club
Akwa United Football Club is among the country's popular and Professional Football Club predominant based in the city of Uyo capital of Akwa Ibom State. The Club Nickname is known as the Promise Keepers and they are one of the most professional players in the Nigerian professional football league club.
The Uyo based football club was brought into existence in the Year 1996 on December and was initiated by the then Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State by name Navy Captain Joseph Adeusi.
The club gained full ground as they were promoted to the Nigerian Premier League in the year 2006, and Akwa Ibom Stadium is the club's home stadium and playground for training.
They hit a record of $10,000 fine in the year 2007 when three people reportedly dead after a home game with Eyimba and that resulted in banning the team from playing in Uyo for over three years, but after some plead the ban was officially reduced to one year until the ground was rebuild.
The team was relegated back to Pro League Division 1 on the final day of the 2008-09 season by goal differentials after Zamfara won 9-0.
Akwa United Football Club has recorded so many success stories throughout the subsequent years they have been in the field as they have taken first round in the CAF Confederation Cup 2016 and has taken honours as they came 2nd in the Nigeria Football Federation Cup 2015 and 2017.
They won their first trophy in November 2015 after defeating Lobi Stars of Makurdi with 2-1 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos. They took part in the first division of Nigeria Football which is the Nigeria Professionals Football League.
Akwa United has been one of the most successful football clubs as they are been known by their fans all over Nigeria and Africa as the most courageous and spirited football club in the Nigeria Premier League.
